A Day With Nathan Chen & Karen Chen

Due to high demand “A Day with Karen Chen” is back and this time we have both Nathan Chen and Karen Chen at Sherwood Ice Arena on Sunday, May 19th, 2019!!!

Hosted by Big Dream Skaters Foundation (BDSF) and Oregon Skating Council (OSC).

Purpose of event: Personal encounter with figure skating superstars and learn from them. BDSF will promote the spirit of figure skating, support youth development for local skaters both on- and off-ice, and create community outreach. 

This year we are featuring two figure skating ambassadors: two-time and reigning World Champion, U.S. Olympic Team Bronze Medalist, and three-time and reigning National Champion Nathan Chen, and US National Champion, Karen Chen, will bridge children with a big dream to the top level skaters’ realm. 7:30 – 7:40A Quick meet & greet with Nathan Chen and Karen Chen in lobby (no selfies, just a quick hello!) 

7:40 – 8:15A Warm up with Nathan Chen and Karen Chen

8:15 – 8:30A Skates On: 1st (Beginner) and 2nd (Low Intermediate) group skaters

On ice training with Nathan and Karen starts!

8:30 – 9:00A 1st group: 30 min on-ice with Nathan // 2nd group: 30 min warm up on-ice with Karen

9:00 – 9:30A 2nd group: 30 min on-ice with Nathan //  1st group: ice review with Karen 

ICE CUT         Skates On: 3rd (Juv+) and 4th (Novice+) group

9:45 -10:15A 3rd group: 30 min on-ice with Nathan //  4th group: 30 min warm up on-ice with Karen

10:15 -10:45A 4th group: 30 min on-ice with Nathan // 3rd group: 30 min warm up on-ice with Karen 

10:45 -11:15A On-ice Photo session: Group photo & Coaches photo

11:15A -12:00 Lunch Break

12:00 – 1:00P Off-ice training and technique with Nathan and Karen

1:05 – 1:45P Q&A session with Nathan and Karen in Lobby. 

1:45 – 2:30P Photo session and autograph (selfie time!) ‘Finding The Edge’ by Karen Chen available for purchase. 



★ Please prepare your own lunch and bring your water bottles. 

★ Please bring your athletic attire and shoes for off-ice training. 

★   You are welcome to bring your own yoga mat.

★ Bring your questions to ask during Q&A time!

Nathan Chen is an American figure skater who competes in the men’s singles discipline. He is a two-time World champion, the 2018 Winter Olympic bronze medalist in the team event, the 2017 Four Continents champion, a two-time Grand Prix Final champion, and three-time U.S. national champion.

Karen Chen is an American figure skater. She is a two-time CS U.S. Classic bronze medalist, the 2015 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb bronze medalist, and the 2017 U.S. national champion. Earlier in her career, she won four medals on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, including gold at the 2013 JGP Slovakia.

Oregon Skating Council’s (OSC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) with a mission to promote the sport of figure skating in the state of Oregon. Recognized by United States Figure Skating (USFS) as an Interclub composed of clubs that are members of USFS. OSC consists of representatives from member clubs within the state, which band together to share expertise and resources for events that benefit figure skaters of all the clubs.
