Benefits from George C. Felton Memorial Dance Test Fee Fund Defined

Dr. Felton wishes to encourage more skaters to take up dance through the waiver of the dance test fee.

The dances covered under this reimbursement are as follows: Preliminary dance (Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango, Rhythm Blues), a Pre-Bronze dance (Fiesta Tango, ChaCha, Swing Dance) and/or a Bronze dance (Willow Waltz, Hickory Hoedown, Ten Fox).  The dance test fee will be handled through a waiver at the time the skater signs up for the dance test.

The details for claiming this benefit are outlined as follows:

1.    Skaters whose full membership is in a club that belongs to OSC can claim the test fees for the Preliminary, Pre-Bronze, and Bronze level Dance tests. This includes only patterned partnered and solo pattern dances.

2.    This benefit is offered on a “first come/first serve” basis and dancers can use this benefit till the allotted funds for that fiscal year are exhausted.

3.    There is no age limit on who can apply for this benefit. The skater’s test level in dance determines eligibility.

4.    The dance tests must be taken within the membership year of the sign-up date.

5.    The benefit applies to “in-person” and virtual tests that must be hosted by an OSC member club.

With the increasing number of skaters wishing to coach after or during their college/trade school education, the addition of an eventual Gold medal in Patterned Dance early in their skating career will enhance the skater’s credentials. For those who choose not to coach, they have the possibility of entering the judging ranks where their expertise is greatly needed. Thus, this benefit provides the whole community with a win/win/win opportunity:

1.    The current coaches can increase their lesson time, securing additional income teaching Low Level patterned dances;

2.    The community has more well-rounded skaters who can excel in the competitive ranks;

3.    Finally, the skater wins by further enhancing their own credentials to coach at the completion of their active skating/competing career or enter the judging ranks.
